Google is advancing its AI assistant, Gemini, by rolling out “scheduled actions,” a new feature designed to allow AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers to automate tasks at specific times. This enhancement positions Gemini closer to a comprehensive, proactive digital assistant.
With scheduled actions, subscribers can now instruct Gemini to perform recurring tasks such as providing daily calendar summaries or generating ideas for blog posts every Monday. The feature also supports one-off requests, like summarizing an event the day after it occurs. Google emphasizes the simplicity of the process, stating, “Just tell Gemini what you need and when, and it will take care of the rest.”
Users can manage these planned tasks through a dedicated “scheduled actions” page within the Gemini app’s settings. The functionality was initially observed in an early version by Android Authority in April, aligning with Google’s broader strategy to evolve Gemini into a more “agent-like” AI assistant.
This development places Google Gemini in direct competition with similar offerings from rivals, notably OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which also provides subscribers with features for setting reminders and automating recurring actions.
